OARS Open Ended Questions

This session models the third of the 4 core basic MI strategies of using reflections. This strategy is one of the most critical and can be extremely useful when responding to resistance.

OARS Summaries

Here you will see a demonstration of the 4th core basic MI strategies – the use of summaries. Summaries can be used every 5 minutes or so and demonstrate to the client that you are present and listening to them. They can also be helpful to increase awareness and transition to other topics.

Rolling with Resistance

Giving Feedback

Part of giving feedback is to adhere to the MI FRAMES model: Feedback, Responsibility, Advice (with permission), Menu of options, Express empathy, and Support Self Efficacy.
