Conducting SBIRT on college campuses apart from the traditional student health setting is unchartered territory. This brief is a summary of what we observed and learned during a year of SBIRT in four Vermont colleges.
Lessons learned include how to reach students where they are at, who is more likely to take the survey, and why students decide to take the survey.
Across all colleges, 35% of students had some level of nicotine risk, 35% of students had some level of alcohol, cannabis, and other drug risk, 23% were at some risk of depression and 34% were at some risk for anxiety.
The brief further describes interventions and the focus in these colleges for next year.
